Abstract
To investigate the sediment sources, transport pathways and deposition patterns under different dynamic conditions at Wusongkou Area, where the Changjiang River meets the Huangpu River, this study examined the characteristics of flow and sediment distribution in the region. Based on hydrological data, including flow velocity, direction, sediment concentration, and particle size distribution, obtained from field measurements during both flood and dry seasons, the vertical distribution of sediment concentration was calculated by using the Rouse equation and Zhang Ruijin equation. Particular emphasis was placed on analyzing the influence of tidal currents on flow-sediment transport. The results indicated good agreement between the calculated values and measured data in most cases, demonstrating that the adopted velocity and sediment concentration formulas can accurately describe the vertical variation of sediment concentration. The findings can provide a reference for the online monitoring of suspended sediment concentration and the estimation of sediment transport rates at Wusongkou area, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of flow-sediment dynamics in complex estuary areas.
